Merv 8 High Capacity Fiberbond Furnace FilterThe actual thickness of the filter is 1 1/2 inches instead of 1 inch because of the foam overlap, which is designed to make a tighter seal when installed. This means that the filter can be used to replace either a 1 inch or a 2 inch filter.The perimeter sealing flap, or foam overlap of this design effectively handles a problem that's common in many conventional filter installations - unfiltered air leaking past the filter due to the variance in size and manufacturing tolerances of the heating and cooling system's filter holder.This filter's design compensates for this problems to make sure that all the air that travels through your heating and cooling system is filtered. The interior metal frame of the filter allows the filtering material to extend beyond the normal filter dimensions. When slid into place it creates a tight seal that does not permit particles from passing around the filter. The dual-density media (two layers, the green one and the white one around a metal frame) captures small particulates.An antimicrobial biocide that effectively controls the growth of mold, mildew, algae and fungi is present on the filter media.
